What Is My IP?

As you may or may not know your IP address or Internet Protocol Address, is a number used to identify hardware across a network. This number is responsible for allowing your device to communicate with other devices. For instance, without knowing your IP Address the computer or mobile device you’re using right now wouldn’t be able to get you to this site and read this paragraph.

What most people don’t know is that there are different types of IP’s and they do not all serve the same purpose. You have private IP’s, public IP’s, static IP’s and Dynamic Ip’s. Why is this important you ask? Well, you see as helpful as your IP address is it can also cause you a bunch of trouble.

Hiding Your IP Address

Since your IP address allows other devices to see your device and its location, you can imagine what a cybercriminal can do with that information. Yes, those damn criminals. Always finding bad ways to make good money. That’s where VPN’s come in handy.

A VPN or virtual private network is a paid service that, “takes your Internet connection and makes it more secure, helps you stay anonymous and helps you get around blocks and access censored sites.” There are many different VPN’s to choose from across the web so finding one is up to you. For 10 reasons why you might want to get one look below. List courtesy of NordVPN
